Carolyn Baldwin Tucker

Carolyn Baldwin Tucker became a Christian at the age of ten and has remained faithful to the Church since baptism. She was orphaned during her childhood and was reared by an older sister, Jewell. While an adolescent, she represented the Alton Park congregation in Chattanooga at various youth meetings. Sister Tucker has been married to Brother Jesse Tucker for thirty-six years. The Tuckers worship with the Church of Christ at Jackson Street, where Bro. Tucker serves as an Elder and a Wednesday night Bible teacher for the Adult Class. Sis. Tucker serves as a teacher for the Sunday morning Ladies Bible Class . They have two adult children (who are also members of the church): Susan who is an attorney is married to Deaderick Jones – Minister of the Church of Christ at Bordeaux. Randall, their son is married to Ericca, and he is the minister of the Glass Street Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant. Bro. and Sis. Tucker have one grandchild – Josiah- who is the child of Deaderick and Susan Tucker Jones.

Sister Tucker who has conducted numerous workshops, has also, been the guest speaker for Ladies Day Programs for congregations throughout Nashville and other cities. In addition, she has conducted workshops for the Lipscomb Lecture Series; the Soul Winning Workshop in White Bluff, Tn. , the International Bible College in Florence Alabama and the Carver Road Church of Christ in Winston Salem, North Carolina.


Sis. Tucker received the B.S. and M.A. Ed. Degrees from Tennessee State University; the Ed.S. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville; and the Ph. D. from PeabodyVanderbilt University. She is currently an adjunct professor at Lipscomb University . Sis. Tucker was employed with the Metro Nashville Public School System for 30 years. Her tenure with the school system included: five (5) years as a classroom teacher; twenty two years as a school principal, and three years as a Director of Elementary Schools. After retiring from the school system, for three years she worked as a consultant for the Tennessee State Department of Education

Sis. Tucker is also a Council Lady At-Large for the Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County Council where she is in her second term of office. She is the first African American woman to win a county-wide race in the history of Nashville and Davidson County.
